The Gorée Island Slave House and Museum

The entrance steps leading up to the Slave Master's quarters .. painted in the same traditional Senegalese pink as was my hotel in Dakar .. but nowhere near so inviting.

Below are the cells in which the slaves were segregated as to sex, age and state of health.
You can really feel the painful history of these buildings in the atmosphere here.

The entrance and exit tunnel for the slaves .. connecting the cells to the sea.

The view from the door at seaward end of the tunnel .. which, for countless poor souls forced into slavery, was their last view of Africa.
