The descent to Banani Village 1 - Dogon Country - Mali

This way .. to descend into the coolness afforded by the cleft in the rocks.

Sometimes the path was no more than a scramble down between large rocks  ...

... at other times, it flattened out. We met some local ladies, still having to climb up and down every day to get supplies .. in the same way as others have done for 1000 years.

Whenever there was an area of flat ground .. the ubiquitous Baobab tree was found.

Yes, we had come a long way .. but there was still a longer way to descend, to get to the village of Banani, beautifully camouflaged at the base of the cliffs.
