More by luck than judgement, we found La Maison de L'Hote - which used to be a former Colonial Governor's mansion - a small hotel situated on the edge of town, just a few minutes walk from the market.

Nicely laid out buildings and gardens, which were kept immaculately clean by the genial owner Ahmed,
a business man from Nouakchott, his manager Ardo - who became our guide - and their staff.

The rooms were comfortable with air conditioning, satellite TV, fridges and large bathrooms

To the rear of the main building - outside the restaurant - was a large terrace .....

..... where we could eat our breakfast whilst enjoying lovely views of the surrounding countryside.
